Denton announces first & second team squad for 2017/18 season

September 29, 2017

We are entering a new era at Bec Korfball Club with the introduction of head coach, John Denton, and assistant coach, Graham Box.  Their main focus will be bringing the best out of our extremely competitive first and second team. The first team has consistently been at the top of England Korfball League for the last few seasons, whilst the second team has been similarly hard to beat at the top of the London league.

The first task for the new coaches was to name the squad that they wanted to work with and this can't have been easy given the number of top quality players available at Bec.

The tough calls have been made though and we're pleased to announce the Bec 1 & 2 playing squad for the coming season...

Male: Andrew Hall, Ben King, Billy Ashby, Blake Palfreyman, Craig Barthrope, Davesh Patel, Jack Faulkner, James Lydall, Joe Bedford, Kieron Hicks, Stu Ironmonger

Female: Ana Rocha, Amie Swain, Beth Penhaligon, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Chloe Swain, Heather Ikwuemesi, Helen West, Ho Yei Knauss, Jess Bennett, Jo-Anne Wilson, Kenzie Baldock, Sara Rocha

We caught up with head coach, John Denton, following the announcement to get his thoughts. Here's what he had to say:

"After two extremely competitive trials and some really difficult decisions, I think we have selected a strong squad. It's full of experienced internationals alongside some up-and-coming youth players. I'm delighted to be working with such a talented group, it's going to be an exciting and successful season for Bec Korfball Club" - John Denton, Bec Head Coach

The squad has already got off to a flying start with a mixture of players picking up wins against Norwich Knights and Birmingham City in a pre-season tournament last weekend.

As a club, we are very excited to see what this season will hold. We are also absolutely delighted to welcome back some familiar faces like Jo-Anne Wilson, Heather Ikwuemesi & Stu Ironmonger, as well as introduce a couple of new players with the likes Kenzie Baldock & Kieron Hicks.

A full article on our new players will be up on our website in the coming weeks.
