Bec 3 lose out in dying seconds

Our match of the week is Bec 3 vs Croydon 3 in what promised to be a tense affair between two teams sitting on equal points in the LKL 2.

Both teams started strongly, trading goals between them. Annie was on usual firing form as she breezed past her player to give Bec a narrow lead. Croydon found the Korf from range which helped keep things level. However, Bec reminded relentless in defence keeping the score at 3-3 as the game entered the latter stages of the first half. Some skilful play from Irfan added another goal to Bec’s tally and Michelle used her pace to give Bec a half time lead.

The second half continued like much of the first with both teams matching each other for goals. Another long range shot put Croydon ahead, however some great passing and finishing between Josh and Irfan brought Bec back into contention. Anne continued to dominate her player, adding some outside shots to her tally.

The score stood poised at 10-10 with 5 minutes to go. Bec were working tirelessly in defence, not allowing Croydon any inside shots. With less than a minute to go Croydon found the Korf again from range and, despite a solid performance, Bec lost out in this thrilling affair.

Bec 3 will take the positives from this game. The girls put in an outstanding defensive performance, keeping Croydon’s girls down to just 2 goals. The boys combined well at times throughout, showing their creativity in creating plenty of chances.
