Juniors to 1sts...?

Sunday saw Bec host their first London Junior Mini-Games of the season and it was another success with over 70 children taking part across 3 age groups, representing Bec, Bromley, Hayes, Nomads and Trojans.

Our junior officer Davesh Patel said “it was a privilege to host this round of mini-games and collaborate with the junior set ups of the other London clubs” and that “it was fantastic to see the progression of many regulars but equally as pleasing to see complete beginners participating in these games. Congratulations to all the players!”

Now on to the best juniors (I mean what else are we supposed to say about our BecBees)... 😊

An overall impressive performance from all the youngsters with each implementing what they have learnt from training with some of that hard work paying off with another victory under their belts. Coaches Chloe and Amie were really pleased to see goals from several players including 2 screamers from Harrison and Reeve. A “John Wilson-esque” attempt at a running in shot from Ted left fellow team mates, parents and spectators with a smile on their faces.

Again, thanks for all those who got involved in helping out and baking cakes. 💛🖤

Sunday also saw Bec 1 take on Cambridge Tigers. The squad looked to build on recent performances and increase on recent goal tallies as the Grand Finals edge ever closer. This week also saw the return of Caitlin to first team action since last May. Our young Becstar Billy also found himself amongst the starting 8.

The attack came out firing with Heather getting her first goal within 10 seconds of the match starting. She quickly followed this with a runner and Bec flew into a 2-0 lead. The other division of Dav, Andrew, Helen and Caitlin kept up the pace and some accurate shooting kept Bec in front. Bec’s defensive pressure was good, although Cambridge shot well off some diagonal balls to get their opening goals of the game. In attack, it was Billy who found the Korf next with a classic downtown banger. Some hard work from Amie saw her draw a penalty which Kieron converted.

Bec’s attack was relentless with goals coming from everyone. Dav’s division combined well to create outside shots culminating in Caitlin and Dav getting themselves on the score sheet. Cambridge were not defeated though and kept working hard for their shots and landing them from range. However, Bec’s lead at this point was impressive and the victory was secured by half time.

The second half got off to a slower start for Bec and some defensive errors allowed Cambridge to score 4 answered goals. Bec worked to step up a gear with Amie winning another penalty. Kieron may have missed but all was forgiven when he landed an immense shot from range. Heather continued to dominate her player as the goals kept coming. Dav and Andy continued to combine well and Helen and Caitlin attacked well together.

Blake came on for Dav and scored with his first shot of the game. This game also gave Chloe and Jess some more first team action. Jess nailed a shot from range whilst Chloe kept putting up her shots and attacking hard. This game was turning into a really impressive team performance.

Overall it was a solid game from Bec with goals coming from everyone. There were certainly areas to improve upon but some slick shooting keeps Bec unbeaten and top of the National League.

Shout out to Billy for some great defence against the rapid Toby Clarke and to Heather for scoring 6 goals!
