Big Weekend for the Squad!

Bec 2

It was a big weekend for the squad as Bec 1 and 2 took on long term rivals Trojans. For Bec 2, a win would put them one victory away from the LRL title, whilst Bec 1 looked to see out the regular season as the only unbeaten team in the National League....

Bec 2 were up first. With Trojans getting the win at the start of the season, Bec 2 really had a point to prove. First attack was Billy, Jack, Jess and Beth, with defence made up of John, Stu, Chloe and Caitlin

The game got off to a cracking start as both teams came out firing. A sweet long shot from Billy was quickly followed by a Trojans goal. John nailed a long shot to swing the advantage back in Bec’s favour. This tit-for-tat set the tone for much of the first half as the teams continued to exchange goals. A substitution for Bec saw Blake coming into the game were he worked with Billy to create good opportunities. Strong rebounding from Jess allowed this division to extend their attacks and create lots of opportunities. A downtown banger from Beth prompted a huge cheer from the bench as Bec regained the lead. In the other section it was Caitlin working at the rebound with Stu and John combining on the outside as Chloe worked her player to create her own opportunities. Opportunities for Bec were plentiful but scoring was not quite as clinical as that of Trojans. Despite a good first half performance, Bec 2 went into halftime 2 goals down. HT score 10-12

Bec started the second half strongly with Caitlin scoring a runner and (finally) sorting out her shot to score a goal on the outside. Bec were back level and stepped up a gear to take back the lead. Jack came back onto the pitch and held his nerve to sink a few crucial penalties. Goals from Stu and Blake opened up a 4 goal lead for Bec which Trojans were never able to recover from. Some final goals from Billy secured the victory for Bec in what was surely their team performance of the season.

Overall, a really great effort from Bec 2. Despite going behind several times, the team always came together to fight back and regain the lead. It was great to see goals coming from everyone as the team really showed the progression they have made this season. Final score 20-16

Bec 1

Next up was Bec 1. After a late game in Norwich the previous the day the team looked to shake off any fatigue as they took on a Trojans side eager to get revenge.

It was a tense affair from the start as the teams traded goals. A score of 4-4 was on the board after just 5 minutes. However, some fouls from Bec allowed Trojans to open up a lead that Bec could never recover from. Trojans were particularly deadly with free passes and they shot well on the outside. Bec perhaps became a bit too static in attack and struggled to create the opportunities they usually do. The attack looked good at times with Amy nailing a couple of runners and Joe sinking a long shot. Kenzie and Joanne worked hard at the post with Dav and Andy combining on the outside. However, Trojans remained consistent throughout and their shooting was on fire. Bec trailed by 8 goals into half time.

The second half saw an improvement from Bec, and although this wasn’t their greatest performance of the season, there was still some good Korfball played by the home side. Despite victory for Trojans looking certain, Bec continued to work for their goals and build upon their performance. A final score of 27-15 reflected to clinical shooting from Trojans and perhaps fatigue from the previous evening showed for Bec. With a month to go before the Grand Finals Bec will continue to work hard and come out fighting at the Copper Box!
